Do you want to start a blog but you have a lot of queries like these.
I don’t know how to start a blog…
I don’t have any money to start a blog…
I too had these questions also. But in this post, I’ll be revealing how to start a blog on a low budget.
Don’t Fall Into This Trap
One thing I wish I knew and I want every upcoming and new blogger to know: When I was just starting out I spend approximately $700. I spent every dime I had. That may be small for you but to me, that’s a whole lot of money.
But why did I spend this much?
Everywhere I looked for help, sales pitch hit me left and right. And the testimonials were too awesome. You couldn’t stop yourself from purchasing. Then you end up regretting it.
They say that you are going to make 5-6 figures in a short period of time. You’ll get tons of traffic. And blah blah…
I was in a circle, all over the place. I found out that some of the things I was taught are stuff I already knew or found on the internet. It’s good to find everything in one place though.
Another thing is that I spend all of my money on courses THEN I didn’t have enough money to purchase resources for my website.
Now that might not be a problem for you but if you’re on a budget, it might not be a good choice to buy every course that promise a breakthrough.
If you’re one of those persons who doesn’t have a lot of money to spend on courses then you can go here to get free coupons (100% off) on Udemy at this site. You can search for any topic: SEO, photo editing, WordPress, affiliate marketing etc.
I am planning to compile a post with free courses from different bloggers that will help to bring your blog to a different level. If you are interesting, be sure to subscribe and leave a comment to be notified.
So before you start spending a lot of money, see if the above resource can help you. I wished I found this a bit earlier.
What’s the Startup Cost of Starting a Website?
You can spend as little as $100 to set up your website. So here are the must-have options:
Bluehost – This provides domain and web hosting services. This will cost $77.28 for 1 year *Don’t proceed with any purchases until I give you some guidelines.
Fiverr – To purchase a logo for $5. I’ll explain the benefit of a logo later on in this article.
Overall Cost – $82.28
Sounds ridiculous ugh?
Here are the guidelines to start immediately:
Setting Up Your Domain with Bluehost
Well, this is the only web hosting service I ever used and believe me, it’s user- friendly. When I started blogging I knew nothing. I have never encountered any problems using Bluehost’s services.
If I was lost, all I had to do is talk to a staff online and they will sort out all my queries. Bluehost will allow you to select your domain name and set up WordPress for you.
This is the most important part of creating a website. If you do not do this then you can’t move forward.
Login into Bluehost here:
Select a Plan
Note: *You can select any of the other options if you have a larger budget but for now we are sticking with $77 for one year
Choose a domain name: For example fight4prosperity.com. The ‘Fight4Prosperity’ would be the domain.
Fill in Payment details:
Yaay! So you have chosen your domain name and make a payment. Now it’s time to set up WordPress.
I will not go through how to use WordPress such as creating a post but you can check out the site I recommended earlier to find free courses. If you forgot, you can go here. Look through the options and choose one or more course. But don’t be a course junkie. There are plenty of free resources on the internet to get started.
Why Having a Logo Is Important?
This is important for developing one’s brand. A logo is one of the first things a visitor see when they come to your website. By looking at your website they immediately know what your blog is about.
If you know how to design a logo in photoshop then go ahead. If not then you can get a logo for $5 on Fiverr. It’s the cheapest option I know. If you’re wondering where I purchased my logo, I purchased it at Fiverr also. It can be found at the top of my page.
How to get started?
Why You May Not Need A Landing Page Now?
You may be wondering why I haven’t recommend Clickfunnels or OptimizePress etc. I started this blog without any.
Well, I had like 0 Page views so who will see my landing page. You can go ahead if you’re going to pay for ads and have some type of freebie to give to your visitors in return for their email.
I only used pop-ups and email optin at the end of my blog post. And did I mention, it’s all free. I used MailChimp and Sumo (mainly sumo) at this moment which is also free.
Yeah, I know I am cheap but one day when my blog grows a bit more and start to make money I’ll be able to get all those resources and more.
But for now, Naah.
Blogging Mistakes I Made and Why YOU Should not:
- Thinking I’ll See Success in Just One Month
I know you may be frowning at me. But after reading blog posts and seeing how other claims to do well in just 1-2 months. I thought I would reap the same type of success.
I am not saying it’s not possible. It’s quite possible. Other bloggers may have a large following on social media, awesome marketing strategies that I am planning to used or paid ads. They have their own way.
This is not a debate whether its possible or not. I am saying to you never you expect overnight success.
Because if you don’t get that overnight success. You’ll feel saddened and a bit demotivated.
This leads to giving up and saying to yourself that blogging is not for you.
My advice is to go back to the drawing board. Don’t fight yourself if no one is reading your post yet.
Someone will, one day.
2. Focus on One Social Media for Marketing
I am a bit embarrassed to say this. I tried Instagram, it just wasn’t working for me. I tried facebook, that’s even worse. I tried Youtube and even purchase a software which I used once, that’s too time-consuming. I recently tried twitter, that’s a disaster. I can’t understand that platform at all, people be following and unfollowing.
So what I am up to?
I’ll be focusing on Pinterest fully until I have mastered it completely. I am giving the others some break. They are a complete disaster right now.
In order to be successful, you need to focus on one platform and mastered it. Anyone that you feel comfortable with. All of the social media platforms have potential to drive traffic to your blog.
You don’t have time to be focusing on 3 different platforms at the same time.
It’s just a no-no.
3. Writing Short Blog Post
I started out with blog posts between 400-500 words and that seem to be completely fine with me. Recently I found out that longer blog posts (for example 1000 words) rank better in google search engine.
I am not saying this for you to write boring articles and fill it with unhelpful info.
So avoid writing short posts, it might seem time-consuming but the end results are traffic.
4. Not Being Consistent
As stated before, it can be a little discouraging if no one is reading your blog. Many start and stop. In the beginning, we put in a lot of effort and after a while, we are laid back.
You need to treat your blog as a business. Make time for it.
Select a time when you’ll focus solely on your website and make it one of your priority.
5. Stop Learning and Start Implement
There are so many things to be learned about blogging such as SEO. I still haven’t got the knack of it but I have some knowledge on the topic.
You may think, you know everything once you have set up your website but it’s just the beginning. Don’t make over the system instead follow it.
With that being said, I am not telling you to be an information junkie. There’s a time you need to stop searching for more tips and implement what you have learned already.
So Learn and Implement!
Setting up a website can be daunting if you’re doing it by yourself. I have provided the best way you can start a blog for under $100 dollars today. Yes, Today!
